What made Jesus' followers believe that Jesus rose from the dead?
by John Kesler inwhat made some of jesus' followers believe that jesus rose from the dead?
my best guess--and as e.p.
sanders says, we really don't know--is that jesus' followers--distraught, sad, and disillusioned--had visions in what we now call altered states of consciousness, a condition that can be induced by fasting, sleep deprivation, and fatigue.

I think that"priestly" religion annihilates direct experience of God whenever they sniff it out.
Religion denies that there is knowledge of God independent of their control.
The sterility that results from a religion's rigid control will certainly have a powerful effect even on non-believers.
If God is an icon painted by priests--
Silly looking, impotent and flat--
Am I wrong NOT to believe
in such a ridiculous thing as that--
Was I supposed to look at colored wood?
I still believe.

I bookmarked that link. I would love to listen to the talk while those women quilt.
My mom went to a rural quilting group that gave her more peace than her church did.I did a drawing of the group while they were quilting , Momnamed it "Group Therapy". Dad's been in bad health lately so she doesn't go much now. She got so much out of it. But even quilting quietly by herself helps her, but in a different way.
Thanks for the thoughts here, Syl.

Like painting with cloth.
I love it . My mom quilts since she got the children raised.
I love the color and pattern of that quilt. Incredible color sense. Hickory-bottomed chair weave.

It is THINKING that is the real danger. Reading their literature and then thinking will get you in trouble with the WTS. If you find a discrepancy and provide the reasoning from their literature and in conscience try to express your concern you are done.
When I discovered that they only wantyou to repeat what comes out of their mouths, the FDS, regardless of the Bible and common sense and their own reference work I finally realized I was in CRAZY LAND. I got out.

Thnks for the post--I'm going to google that after I get this load up the mountain.
Your uphill fight to survive and thrive... oh, God...I'm so happy his children didn't go down forever after your homeplace and father crashed.
Did you ever read All God's Dangers: the Life of Nate Shaw?

The FDS used scriptures to justify the robotics they wired into us: Heb. 10:24,25 for the mandatory gatherings they organized and they used 1 Cor. 14:33,40 to structure the meetings. These things compelled us to wear our hair a certain way, dress a certain way. Those of us that were genuine converts originally came to meetings for the love of God but found ourselves laced up in an organizational straight jacket as though to insure the spiritual safety of ourselves and others.
Now,
friggin, have you ever been in love?
If so, then you would know that you don't have to be organized into meeting and talking with the one you love. You don't want to damage the beauty of the love that you share. So you talk. And you do things to make it grow and so on.
You can't stop Christians from talking to each other and exchanging phone numbers and from encouraging one another. And even from meeting together. You can't stop them. The book of Acts is all about spontaneous actions. The spirit of God gives evidence of itself in the outcome of the actions.
If you are in love with God then don't manage it to death like everyone wants to do. Trust the spirit.
This is IMO----That's my take on matters so far. I've met so many Christians that way and Have been so encouraged by those conversations and offers to meet with them. And I'm not talking about "joining churches"
Edited: When I saw the above posts I see I am redundant here--But take the point: there are ways we all agree and still remain individual..Christian freedom!
RIGHT ON BROTHERS!
